Dissatisfaction with the depth and quality of publicly available Private Equity databases led to the foundation of CEPRES Center of Private Equity Research in 2001. Academic research within the Private Equity industry is a vital component for the professional management and handling of this asset class.
CEPRES has been established as a co-operation between VCM Capital Management GmbH, today Sal. Oppenheim Banking Group, and the chair of banking and finance at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University of Frankfurt am Main [www.finance.uni-frankfurt.de]. Both founding-partners still benefit from this co-operation by combining the decades of private equity experience and the scientific skills of the broad research network. Today, the strong academic base has been strengthened by including the Department of Finance at the Technical University of Munich [www.wi.tum.de] in its shareholder base. Furthermore, universities and single academics around the world have access to a unique part of the dataset and are filling the CEPRES‘ research agenda with life and knowledge. All of this is maintained under the highest level of confidentiality, where all data used in academic studies is completely anonymous. Today CEPRES has strong institutional background since it belongs to the Sal. Oppenheim Alternative Investments platform since 2007.
One historical key element of CEPRES is the Private Equity Analyzer , a unique database that can be used as an analyzing tool for Private Equity markets. Exclusive access to the Private Equity Analyzer Premium version is understood as the incentive to join the data-community. Today the Private Equity Analyzer is providing community partners a transparency about Private Equity returns/risks which was never been reached before.
The purpose of CEPRES is to gain valuable insight into the future trends of the Private Equity industry via in-depth quantitative analysis of Private Equity market data. The studies and dissertations analyze industry trends, benchmark Private Equity vs. other asset classes and conduct in-depth studies relevant for our clients’ own asset allocation across the Private Equity universe.
